Coaching Accomplishments
- Was the interim head coach for the 2004 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl vs. Miami (Fla.).
- Re-joined the Gator staff for the fourth time in his career in Dec. 2002.
- Has 23 years experience as a collegiate coach (Florida, South Carolina, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Southern Illinois, Texas A&M) and seven years as a defensive coordinator. Also has two years coaching experience at the professional level as an intern with the New Orleans Saints in 1993 and the Detroit Lions in 1994.
- Coached in 17 bowl games, including 10 January bowl games.
- UF has scored points off turnovers in 28 of the 37 games he has been the defensive coordinator.
- UF has intercepted 53 passes in his three years as defensive coordinator, the fifth highest total in the nation during the last three years
- Co-Defensive Coordinator for a Florida unit that improved in 14 statistical categories in 2005. Florida ranked ninth in the nation in total defense (299.8 ypg.) and 10th nationally in rushing defense (94.9 ypg.).
- Instilled an aggressive, attacking scheme at Florida that forced 31 turnovers, tops in the SEC and ninth-best nationally and recorded 33 sacks - the 25th best total nationally and best at UF since 1999. UF's 337 yards on tackles for loss in 2005 was the best in school history since records were kept in 1983.
- Florida's 31 turnovers resulted in 114 points or 34.3 percent of all UF's points - tops in the SEC. UF was third in the SEC in three and outs (35.3 percent of all opponent possessions).
- Only defensive coordinator in the nation the last 10 years to hold FSU to under 50 yards rushing in consecutive contests (34 in 2004 and 49 in 2005).
- Coached the SEC's leading freshmen tacklers in his first two seasons as defensive coordinator at UF (Channing Crowder in 2003 and Brandon Siler in 2004).
- The Florida defense improved in the following categories from 2003 to 2004: scoring defense, rushing yards per attempt, yards rushing per game, average yards per catch, average yards per completion, yards per play, yards per game and sacks per game.
- In first season as the Florida defensive coordinator in 2003, the Gators ranked 22nd in the nation in pass efficiency defense and 28th in scoring defense. The 2004 team ranked 27th nationally in pass efficiency defense.
- In 2003, Florida improved in five different defensive categories from 2002: interceptions, pass deflections, fumble recoveries, forced fumbles and sacks.
- In 2003, the Gators ranked second in the SEC with 20 interceptions, which tied for the seventh-highest total in school history.
- UF's 30 takeaways in 2003 led the SEC.
- In 2002, as South Carolina's Defensive Coordinator, ranked 28th in the nation in passing defense giving up 186.92 yards per game in the air.
- Ranked 27th in 2001 in total defense allowing an average of 326.55 yard per game. Only 182.36 yards (16th) were given up on passing defense. Ranked 12th in the nation in scoring defense, giving way to only 18.4 points a game.
