Four Star Safety Cooper Considering MSU Visit

Michigan State is attempting to lure Proviso East four-star strong safety Corey Cooper into taking a visit to East Lansing this week, as they continue to work to secure a stronger group of visitors that they'd like to grab commitments from. Where does Cooper stand with MSU and what are the coaches telling him about what his role would be in East Lansing? GET INside to find out.

CHICAGO - If Michigan State could snag one player who could really make a difference in their 2010 recruiting class is might be four-star safety Corey Cooper of Proviso East (IL).

Cooper finished his senior season at Proviso with 80 tackles from the strong safety position - a position where MSU can use help with the graduation of senior Danny Fortener.

He recently participated in the Offense-Defense bowl in Orlando, FL and Midwest Recruiting Analyst Allen Trieu came away impressed.

"(Cooper is a) hard-hitting defensive back who showed it in the game. He's very aggressive and looked during the week like he would be an ideal strong safety. He was even bigger than we remembered him being," said Trieu.

Cooper said "it's possible" that he would join the big group of visitors heading up to MSU this weekend, but it depended on whether he could work it out in his schedule with his parents.

The visit would be his fifth and final official visit. He is considering Notre Dame, Nebraska, Arizona and Illinois - the school he verballed to early in the recruiting process.

So what are the Michigan State coaches saying to him to try to coax him up for a visit?

"They want me to come in and check out the campus, meet some of the players and see if I fit in," he said.

"They let me know that (playing time as a freshman)is possible if I come in and compete, work hard and do what I need to do. It sound like a good opportunity," said Cooper.

With MSU losing five players from the group of ten defensive backs on the two-deep to graduation and the status of others unknown, grabbing a player like Cooper could really give a boost to an already solid class.
