Zeigler Talks MSU, Duke And Upcoming Schedule

Mt. Pleasant star updates injury status, his recruitment by Michigan State and Duke, his conversation with Coach "K" and his desire to show up big in a huge holiday tournament. Don't know the latest with Zeigler? Then GET INside to find out all the details.

MT. PLEASANT - It would take a lot to keep Trey Zeigler off the hardwood, especially with his upcoming schedule.

"I have a chipped bone in wrist. The doctor wanted me to take a few weeks off but I can't do that, not now," said the Mt. Pleasant senior. "It's my last year and you only get one senior year. It doesn't need a cast so I'm just going to wear a brace and tape it up."

Zeigler will suck it up and tape up his wrist and take the floor Friday night against a Saginaw Valley League foe in Saginaw Heritage. Mt. Pleasant and Heritage both have high hopes of vying for the SVL Title which has been owned by Arthur Hill and Saginaw High as of late.

On Saturday Zeigler and his Oiler teammates will travel to Detroit Country Day where they will play Melvindale ABT in the "Throwdown in Motown". The game is big for Zeigler because it puts his team on the big stage. "I can't let them go into a game like that without me. I'm really excited for it because I have never played in this event. It's the holidays and I'm going to have so much family home in the Detroit area, family that hasn't seen me play lately. It's going to be a great atmosphere," said Zeigler.

It's a good thing for Mt. Pleasant that Zeigler is going to suit it up or else the Oilers would really miss Zeigler's 26.5 points, 11 rebounds, 6.5 assist, and 4 steals per game averages in two games this season.

Numbers like that and a warrior's mentality has bought in a new seeker for Zeigler's services.

"Yeah, you could say it has heated up with Duke in the last two weeks. I mean Duke is Duke. They have been up to my game and I have talked to Coach K. They will have playing time available at my position which is real intriguing," said Zeigler.

Some have wondered if it is too late for Duke to get into the mix or do they have any strikes against them for taking so long to get into the mix.

"No not really. At first I kind of took it to heart because they didn't recruit me early on. But Coach K explained the situation to me. They were only recruiting one guy and that was Harrison Barnes, and after he committed to North Carolina, they looked else where.

Scout.com's #7 ranked shooting guard in the country has two official visits left and is unsure how they will unfold. "I have two official visits left and I plan to use them on either Michigan State, Duke, or Arizona State," said Zeigler.

With Duke now in the mix where does Michigan State stand?

"I'm feeling Michigan State, big time!" Zeigler said with excitement in his voice.

One thing Zeigler is paying close attention to is playing time at his position. He is keeping an eye to see how things unfold in East Lansing with possible pro prospects like Kalin Lucas, Durrell Summers, and Chris Allen.

"I am keeping a close eye to how Michigan State players are doing, but I am looking at all the schools the same as far as playing time," added Zeigler.
