Offense Wins "Situational" Scrimmage 73-61

Freshman Dion Sims sparkles in controlled scrimmage catching seven passes for 60 yards and Keith Nichol completed 17-of-26 passes for three touchdowns to lead the offense to a 73-61 win over the defense.

EAST LANSING - The Michigan State offense defeated the defense 73-61 in a situational closed scrimmage in East Lansing yesterday.

While it is early, three players for the offense took the opportunity to break out from the pack.

Quarterback Keith Nichol hit on 17-of-26 for 241 yards and three touchdowns, running back Ashton Leggett rushed 10 times for 93 yards and freshman Dion Sims caught seven passes for 60 yards to lead the offense.

On defense, it was starting WILL linebacker Adam Decker leading the team with eight tackles, corner Roderick Jenrette added seven tackles and redshirt freshman Tyler Hoover added six tackles and a fumble recovery.

SAM linebacker Eric Gordon had six tackles, two passes defensed and a sack, backup linebacker Drew Stevens had five tackles and a sack, while Ashton Henderson scored four tackles and two pass breakups.

Meanwhile Kirk Cousins had a tough day, going just 13-of-30 (43% completion rate) for 127 yards and two touchdowns, but Keshawn Martin had five catches for 85 yards and Chris D. Rucker caught four balls for 90 yards including a 52-yarder.
