EAST LANSING - Michigan State junior kicker Brett Swenson was among those named to the Lou Groza Award watchlist, which is presented by the Palm Beach (FL) Sports Commission.
Swenson was among 30 named to the list including last years finalist Josh Arauco of Arkansas State and 2007 winner Thomas Weber of Arizona State. In addition to those two, Leigh Tiffin of Alabama, Sam Glusman of Troy and Jonathan Phillips of Florida made the list for the second time after being among the semi-finalists a season ago.
In naming Swenson to the list, the commission noted "(the) Three-year letterman ranks among MSU's all-time leaders in field goals (tied for third with 52 made), points scored (fourth with 276) and extra points (fifth with 120 made). His 52 career field goals rank second among all-active NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision kickers heading into the 2009 season, has made 66 straight extra-point attempts."
The Award will be presented on Dec. 10, 2009, as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards program. The three finalists will be honored at the 18th annual Lou Groza Award Banquet to be held at the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach, Florida on Tuesday Dec. 8th.
