Michigan State scored another in-state verbal when Chelsea (Mich.) running back Nick Hill chose the Spartans on Tuesday.
The 5'7, 185-lb Hill has been one of the most prolific running backs in Michigan over the past few seasons, rolling up over 4,700 yards over the past three seasons.
"I've had a lot of time to think about it and it feels right," Hill explained.
He received his offer from MSU after running a 4.35 at their camp a few weeks back and it was then that he began to see why East Lansing is a place he wants to be.
"When I talked to Coach Dantonio after he gave me the offer, he talked about the principles he runs the program on. Education was first, all players have to graduate from the school in four years or five. They also give back to the community. Javon Ringer did a lot of stuff with kids and I was raised that way and Chelsea runs their program that way."
Ironically, Hill grew a Michigan fan and looked up to Wolverine running back Mike Hart, who he has drawn numerous comparisons to. He even has struck up a friendship with Hart, but that did not deter him from his decision to become a Spartan.
"It was tough," he admitted, "I'm not sure how it will be when I tell Mike. We've been tight since he got on campus. It was tough, but that is the end of it, it was a personal choice and it is a better decision for me."
Another part of his decision was the way the Spartans have run the ball and his chance to be a part of that.
"They use a two-back system. They usually like one big back and one smaller back, obviously with my height, I would be the smaller back. They split carries, but they get an equal amount of carries. They said they like my great feet, vision and hands and I could be a punt returner and kick returner too."
Hill joins a class littered with talented players from around the state, some of whom he has already talked to.
"The quarterback, Joe Boisture, he knows I'm committed and he's very excited and pumped up."
