Spartans On The Ropes At Halftime 55-34

DETROIT - North Carolina came out on a tear jumping out to a quick 10-point lead and building it to as much as 23 points and Michigan State missed shots and turned the ball over en route to a 55-34 halftime deficit in the 2009 National Championship game.

The Spartans have had no answer for Tar Heels guard Wayne Ellington who poured in 17 first half points. Michigan State's Goran Suton had nine points and five rebounds, Kalin Lucas eight and Korie Lucious added six off the bench.

North Carolina, at one point scored 10 unanswered points in building their lead up to 23 and matched that three times during the half before Michigan State was able to cut the lead to 21 at the half.
