Norman Getting Better and Taking Names

The 4-star linebacker also had recruiting on his mind in Columbus: that is, for the Spartans' 2009 class. With players like Cameron Gordon, Shamari Benton and others in attendance, Norman got a chance to talk up the Green and White.

Already committed to play for Michigan State, Chris Norman takes his role as a future leader seriously.

That's why he went down to Columbus to participate at a recent skills camp held at Ohio State.

"I went down to the … camp just to fine tune any skills," he told GSN last night.

"The main thing I picked up was, as far as like linebackers are supposed to cover and sideline drills where I was in an open-field situation and just forced the running back to the sidelines. … Just the basic linebacker fundamentals I picked up on."

Norman also got a chance to put on some moves at another position: running back. The drills he ran with the linebackers require players to take turns as the "rabbit" and run the ball so other participants can practice pursuit. Apparently, Norman's a natural.

"I made a couple of nice cuts," he said. "The thought of trying out at running back a couple of times popped into my head," he said wryly.

The 4-star linebacker also had recruiting on his mind: that is, for the Spartans 2009 class. With players like Cameron Gordon, Shamari Benton and others in attendance, Norman got a chance to talk up the Green and White.

"Oh, yeah," Norman says about recruiting. "Especially guys … like Shamari Benton.

"It's guys like that I go after so the crowd I come in with can be a good one and we can eventually win some national championships. …

"I just push for State and tell him the positive things about it and I really push the idea that the recruiting class for State is already good so he can be a benefit for that by coming in himself."

And Norman is ready and waiting for the 2009 recruiting class to continue to improve

"It's going to be better than it already is," he says.
