LB Joins Spartan Family

David Rolf

"It felt like the right fit." - David Rolf on choosing Michigan State. Rolf told GSN he was close to a decision on Sunday. By Monday, he made up his mind to join the Green and White family.

David Rolf visited Michigan State last weekend, and by the next day, he decided he found a home. "It felt like the right fit," he said.

The Spartans added to their 2008 recruiting class when Rolf, an athletic, 6-foot-4, 220-pound linebacker prospect from Piqua, Ohio, comitted Monday.

"When I went up there on my official visit, I liked everything," he said. "It just felt like that was the place I needed to be. I canceled my trip to Oregon this weekend and just decided to go to Michigan State."

Rolf said the importance of family was a message coach Mark Dantonio highlighted while making him feel a part of one already.

"He made me feel really comfortable," Rolf said. "I really liked it."

But the love goes beyond the head coach. "I really liked the coaching staff up there and I'm looking forward to playing for them."

About linebacker coach Mike Tressel, Rolf says: "I like him a lot. He's a pretty cool guy, pretty fired up." About defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi: "He's a pretty cool guy, pretty fired up, very — all business, but he can be fun too." And about strength and conditioning coach Ken Mannie: "All the players said he was crazy … but you need that to get better."

While his speed and ranginess suggest a career as an outside backer, Spartan coaches might have other plans.

"They kind of want me to play middle, but they want me to start with both," Rolf said.

And what is he looking forward to the most as he continues his educational and football career at the next level in East Lansing?

"I'm looking forward to meeting new people on the team — actually, just the whole thing, going to college, Michigan State. It'll be fun."
