EAST LANSING - To a man, Michigan State's player expressed shock at #5 ranked University of Michigan's loss to division I-AA Appalachian State an upset many are calling the greatest ever in the history of college football.

Starting with head coach Mark Dantonio, the Spartans repeated an often heard mantra "anybody can beat anybody on any given day."

"It just goes to show that you need to come to play every game and that football truly a game of inches," said Dantonio who plans on using the upset as a way to keep his team focused heading into next week's contest against MAC foe Bowling Green.

"That was amazing," said junior running back Javon Ringer, "They came into Michigan's house and did that, that was something amazing. If that can happen to Michigan, obviously that can happen to any team in the nation because Michigan is highly looked at as one of the best teams in the nation," said Ringer.

Quarterback Brian Hoyer said the Spartans players were looking on in amazement at the wild finish of the UM/Applachian State game.

"Everyone was cheering (our win) when someone said 'Oh, Appalachian state has the ball first and goal going in. Then they kicked the field goal but Henne threw that bomb, so we saw that, but then they blocked the kick."

"At anytime the ball can bounce a certain way and if you don't excute and you (don't) get breaks, anybody can beat anybody out here and I think that's the message," said Dantonio.

"Appalachian State is a good football team, I believe they were the champions of I-AA last year. They're a very good football team (but) I'm sure Michigan will bounce back from this."
