EAST LANSING - Michigan State got four touchdowns from senior Jehuu Caulcrick en route to a 55-18 troucing of Conference USA's Alabama-Birmingham Blazers.
The Spartans watched as Caulcrick,paced them to an early 35-0 lead behind runs of 1, 5, 42 and 5 yard touchdowns by the senior. Fellow Senior Brian Hoyer hit Devin Thomas for a 44-yard touchdown and Brett Swenson nailed a 45-yard field goal. UAB cracked the scoreboard on a 35-yard field goal by Swayze Waters.
Michigan State substituted early and often en route to compiling 593 yards of total offense including 295 yards on the ground.
By contrast, MSU held the Blazers to just 226 yards of total offense despite playing most of the second half with second and third string players in the game.
Hoyer went 14-of-17 for 201 yards and 1 TD. Hoyer started the game 10-of-10. Backup Connor Dixon threw his first TD pass as a Spartan in the second half going 3-of-5 for 57 yards and good-looking freshman Nick Foles went 3-of-5 for 57 yards.
Michigan State (1-0) next plays host to Bowling Green (0-0) who face Minnesota tonight in Minneapolis.
