Dearborn's Mifsud Shines At MSU Camp

Being the son of a coach gives QB prospect Anthony Mifsud (Sr., Dearborn) an advantage over other recruits. Growing up watching game film with your dad really builds the football IQ.

Mifsud participated in the MSU recruiting camp last Saturday and enjoyed his visit to campus. He was timed in sprints and shuttle runs, participated in drills, and also got a chance to meet some of the staff.

“I talked with Coach Maxwell, MSU’s quarterbacks coach, and I liked him,” Mifsud said.

Although he’s more of a pro style quarterback, Mifsud said his mobility is getting better all the time. At the camp he clocked a 5.06 in the 40 yard dash, a little off his best time of 4.9. He also recorded a 30 inch vertical leap while at MSU.

While Dearborn’s offense features the run, Mifsud doesn’t mind the scheme limiting passing because he stays involved in the running game. “We run mostly one-back sets, and sometimes we run a double option,” said Mifsud.

He has not received any offers but has been told he has made the final 5 in Michigan’s search for a QB to follow Ryan Mallet. “My top 5 schools are probably Michigan first then Princeton, Miami (OH), Toledo, and MSU,” Mifsud said.

A pro style quarterback who knows how to operate a run-centered offense with just a touch of mobility sounds like the kind of prospect MSU is looking for. And with the advantage of being a coach’s son with an outstanding academic history, Mifsud stands to be a bonus to any program.
