Cetera Washington Staying At MSU

Washington also was reassured by a called she received from star point guard Mandy Piechowski who told her she and the rest of the MSU squad were very comfortable with coach Merchant's style.

Michigan State's top recruit for the 2007-08 season says she's staying with the Spartans.

Cetera Washington of Kalamazoo Loy Norrix says she was stunned by the actions of outgoing coach JoAnne P. McCallie and is happy with new coach Suzy Merchant.

"It was like a slap in the face," said Washington of McCallie's actions. "She was staying, and then all of a sudden, she was gone. I was speechless," Washington told the Detroit Free Press.

Washington also was reassured by a called she received from star point guard Mandy Piechowski who told her she and the rest of the MSU squad were very comfortable with coach Merchant's style.

"Mandy said everybody's really happy with the coach and they're all staying," Washington told the Freep. "She told me they can't wait for the season to get rolling."

MSU now must try to persuade their four other highly rated recruits forwards Kalisha Keane (Hamilton, ON), Lykendra Johnson (River Forest, IL), guard Brittney Thomas (Bolingbrook, IL), and forward Taja Wilson (Penn Hills, PA) to come to the same decision.
