EAST LANSING - Two more Spartans heard their names called on Sunday in the NFL draft as defensive tackle Cliff Ryan was selected in the fifth round by the St. Louis Rams and punter Brandon Fields was selected in the seventh round by the Miami Dolphins.

But fellow Spartans like long snapper Brian Bury, wide receivers Matt Trannon and Jerramy Scott, linebackers David Herron, Jr. and Seth Mitchell were all waiting by the phone hoping to catch on as undrafted free agents.

St. Louis head coach Scott Linehan said of Ryan "His natural position is nose (tackle). He has the things you are looking for as far as defending the A gap and occupying the space and blockers. He doesn't have a whole lot of problems doing that."

Describing Ryan's attributes he continued, "He is very stout. You can't move him out of there. He's aggressive. He was a hard guy to knock off the ball and that's the first quality you are looking at in a defensive lineman."
