DETROIT - First it was Drew Neitzel who was badly hampered by the effects of flu-like symptoms, now its freshman star Raymar Morgan.
Neitzel was nowhere near full strength in the Spartans loss to Michigan last week and now, it appears that Morgan may have picked up the bug.
While Morgan is expected to play in the season finale against Wisconsin, he may not start the contest in the same manner that Neitzel was held out of the starting lineup against Michigan.
Morgan wasn't allowed to practice with the team, he was sent home for bed rest. While Neitzel is much better than he was in the teams 67-56 loss in Ann Arbor, he still isnt' 100%.
DEHAAN'S #1:
Michigan State's 6-foot-9 freshman Alyssa DeHaan was named Big Ten freshman of the year. DeHaan holds the Big Ten record for blocked shots by a freshman with 129 and should only get better with more experience.
"Allyssa has unlimited potential, and I certainly hope this helps her understand exactly how talented she is, how her talents are recognized and, of course, now how she can go into overdrive and build on those talents in the postseason," said MSU head coach Joanne P. McCallie.
DeHaan will lead the Spartans (22-7) as they take on Minnesota (15-14) today at 2:30 in the first round of the Big Ten basketball tournament at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
