Former Michigan State quarterback Drew Stanton, who many believed would have been a first round pick had he left East Lansing after his junior season, might become one anyway.
Stanton is raising eyebrows and his profile after a solid day of practices in Mobile, AL., the site of the annual Senior Bowl. The solid efforts are big because Senior Bowl practices are run under the direction of coaching staffs from the NFL who have direct input into their team's draft day decisions.
While their have been conflicting reports, including one by Scout.com's Miller Safrit of theNFLexperts.com who is covering the practices for Scout.com, another report had Stanton outperforming rival Troy Smith due to Smith's elongated delivery.
One scout told reporters if Stanton keeps up his production, he could be the consensus third quarterback taken - presumably behind LSU's JaMarcus Russell and Notre Dame's Brady Quinn.
Stanton, by contrast according to the report, showed a compact delivery, quick release and good accuracy. Stanton was also visited on Tuesday by front office representatives of the Miami Dolphins.
The Dolphins quarterback situation remains unsettled with Daunte Culpepper still suffering the effects of a severe knee injury in 2005 and former Lions quarterback Joey Harrington being completely ineffective in his stint as the starter and on the verge of being released by the club.
Miami also visited with quarterbacks Chris Leak (Florida), Jordan Palmer (UTEP), Smith, Tyler Palko (Pitt) and Kevin Kolb (Houston)
