Powerful Kicker Bates Verbals to MSU

"I've never really had a kicking coach because I play baseball and basketball. I'm excited because (former MSU punter)Craig Jarrett is a graduate assistant and he's going to help me work on some things that I need to work on."

The hits just keep on coming for new MSU head football coach mark Dantonio and his staff on the recruiting charts.

Kicker Aaron Bates told GSN that he gave Dantonio his verbal commitment to attend Michigan State and will enroll this summer.

"He pretty much told me that (the punting job) was mine to lose and that was exciting, " said Bates. Michigan State loses All-American punter Brandon Fields to graduation and Bates will be given a shot at coming in and taking over immediately.

Bates says that while he has a strong leg, he knows he has some things to work on. "I've never really had a kicking coach because I play baseball and basketball. I'm excited because (former MSU punter) Craig Jarrett is a graduate assistant and he's going to help me work on some things that I need to work on."

We asked Bates was it a little intimidating to think that about punting in a high pressure environments like the "Horseshoe"in Columbus or on the road in South Bend and Ann Arbor."

"I think I can handle it," said Bates. "There's something's I know I need to work on, but I'm looking forward to it."

With the latest two commitments for the MSU coaching staff, they are up to 20 verbals and are close to a few more.

Stay tuned to GSN for the latest in the recruiting battles.
