EAST LANSING - Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio has hired seven of his former assistant coaches at Cincinnati, leaving an opening for just two more.
One of those spots is being reserved for defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi. Narduzzi is not expected to receive the head coaching job at Cincinnati by his deadline of December 6th.
Cincinnati has stated their intention of mounting a nationwide search and one person believed to be on their short list is Ohio Univesity head coach and former Nebraska head man Frank Solich.
Dantonio has already signed Don Treadwell, offensive coordinator; Ted Gill, defensive line; Dan Roushar, offensive line; Mark Staten tight ends/tackles and recruiting coordinator; Harlon Barnett, defensive backs; Mike Tressel, linebackers/special teams; Dan Warner, quarterbacks.
If Enos becomes the ninth coach, he would likely move in as quarterbacks coach and Warner might make the shift to running backs. Cincinnati running backs coach Tim Hinton, elected not to follow Dantonio to East Lansing, the only staff member who stayed behind. He is believed to be recruiting for Cincinnati during the coaching search.
NEW UNIFORMS: Dantonio met with the media and indicated that the Spartans could tweak their uniforms as most of the previous head coaches have done. No official decision is forthcoming, but one thing is for sure, Uniform #1 will be kept out of circulation by the new staff as it was by John L. Smith's regime.
