EAST LANSING - Drew Neitzel was among six Spartans in double-figure scoring and his 17
points helped Michigan State (2-0) crush Youngstown State (1-1) 86-61
in the second round of the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic Benefiting
Coaches vs. Cancer.
After only making one basket in the first round game on Wednesday
against Brown, Neitzel came out on fire, scoring his team’s first 12 points
on four three-pointers.
Another Drew - Drew Naymick - broke out for 14 points and an overall
solid effort on both ends of the court.
Maurice Joseph made all five of his field goals, also shooting 4-for-4
from three-point range, finishing with 16 points. Goran Suton added a
double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Travis Walton had 11 and
freshman Raymar Morgan scored 10.
The Spartans shot an impressive 60 percent from the field and a
ridiculous 75 percent from three-point range.
Quin Humphrey scored a game high 22 points and Byron Davis added 18 for
the Penguins.
MSU led 40-22 at halftime thanks to the pair of Drews, Neitzel and
Naymick breaking out on offense.
MSU will now face the winner coming out of the Austin regional on Nov.
16 at Madison Square Garden in New York. Heavy favorite #21 Texas is
the host team out of that region and the most likely next opponent for
the Spartans.
