NOTEBOOK: If you're going to the game...

Have fun, be safe, don't overdo it.

Tailgating will not be allowed in the Michigan State parking lots before 1:00pm for the Notre Dame game. If you try to enter before that time, you will be turned away, no lines will be allowed to form.

EAST LANSING - Tailgating will not be allowed in the Michigan State parking lots before 1:00pm for the Notre Dame game. If you try to enter before that time, you will be turned away, no lines will be allowed to form.

East Lansing's "Open Container Ordinance" will be suspended for home football games during the times the parking lots are open for tailgating for those of legal drinking age. This means if you are caught with an open container outside of the tailgating area or earlier than 1:00pm, you are subjected to the penalties of the ordinance.

In the event of rain, Munn Field will be closed to parking. A suggested alternate is the ramp at Wharton Center and the parking areas near Service Road, east of Bogue street.

CLIFFORD OUT Michigan State starting left guard Peter Clifford is expected to be out for another 1-3 weeks after suffering a knee injury. Kenny Shane has moved into Clifford's starting position and played well. If Clifford injury is slow healing, MSU could petition for a medical redshirt season for the junior.

WATERS DIES: Former Michigan State head coach Frank "Muddy" Waters died this week of heart failure. Waters was 83 years old. He served as Michigan State's head coach during a turbulent period after the abrupt resignation of Darryl Rogers, who jumped to Arizona State University. Waters' dream while coaching Hillsdale College was to someday be the Spartans head man, but he had little success on the field of play, going 10-23 during his tenure. Waters is best known for turning down an invitation to take his Hillsdale team to the Tangerine Bowl in 1955 after being told African-American players on the Hillsdale team would not be allowed to participate. Hillsdale named the football stadium after Waters.
