Bloomington (Ill.) Central Catholic defensive lineman Josh Brent has gone from being a non-football player to a major college prospect. This four-star player has his eye on playing football somewhere in the Big Ten region. Read on for more.

Two years ago, Josh Brent of Central Catholic High School in Bloomington, Illinois had never played football before. Today, he is one of the most sought-after defensive tackles in America.

"I've only been playing football since my sophomore year when I was noticed by the football coaches and teammates," he said.

Brent (6-3, 300, 5.0) played some defensive end as a junior and racked up 109 tackles, 29 tackles for loss and six sacks. He is also dedicated to track and plans on participating in the sport in college.

"One thing that is very important is track," Brent said. "I have been doing track since fourth grade. I have been very impressed with what I have read about the new track coach. I did not get to meet him. I am looking for real support for what I am doing with track from the football coaches."

Brent has listed interest in Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Missouri, Ohio State, and Wisconsin, and lists offers from all schools. He does not seem close to making a final choice. "I don't have a top five," he said. "I am sitting down with my family soon to come up with a short list. I think it is highly likely I will take all of my visits."

Brent checked out Ohio State earlier in June and also planned on camping at Iowa, Illinois, Michigan and Michigan State.

In addition to track and facilities, Brent will be looking for a place where he feels comfortable.

"Comfort level will mean a great deal," he said. I am going to be in whatever school I choose for the next four or five years. Distance does not matter.

"Wherever you go you have to make it home. Freshmen aren't going to have cars on campus so you can't run home all the time. You need to make wherever you are home. My relationship with coaches and teammates is going to be important and the class I come in with will mean something. I want to be a part of a winner so I want to come in with some talented players."

Brent is the No. 10-rated defensive tackle prospect in the nation by Scout.com. He reports a 2.3 GPA and a 21 ACT.
