EAST LANSING - Michigan State announced yesterday that former Spartans standout quarterback Dan Enos will return to the University as it's new quarterbacks coach, replacing Doug Nussmeier.
Enos, who led the Spartans to a Big Ten championship in 1990 and back-to-back bowl appearance starting in 1989 started his career as a graduate assistant at MSU before moving on to Lakeland, Northern Michigan, Southern Illinois, Southwest Missouri State, Western Michigan, North Dakota and most recently Cincinnati.
"Dan is a good fit because of his background; he grew up in the state and played here at Michigan State," said head coach John L. Smith. "However, those factors had little or nothing to do with him being hired. The bottom line is that Dan sold himself during the interview process."
Enos, the author of a DVD entitled "The Education of a Quarterback:QB 101" stated that his goal all along was to return to the University as its quarterbacks coach.
"I'm excited about the opportunity to return to Michigan State," Enos said. "This has been a dream and a goal of mine since I broke into the coaching profession as a graduate assistant in 1991. I'm glad to be back on the MSU campus."
MSU expects to get a boost in recruiting from Enos, who tried to recruit both Drew Stanton and Brian Hoyer while at Western Michigan. They also hope his knowledge and success at the Big Ten level will pay off in grooming the heir to Stanton who is heading into his senior season.
Enos will work with Hoyer and incoming freshman Connor Dixon. He is also expected to have young phenom Keith Nichol of Lowell, MI, who committed to the Spartans as a junior.
