EAST LANSING - Michigan State
got a pleasant surprise this afternoon when the faxes began coming across the wire. A letter of commitment with the name Roderick Jenrette
of Tampa, FL., signed and delivered the outstanding Chamerlain high school corner/linebacker was in the fold for MSU.
Rumors began to surface earlier this week that Jenrette would join the group and intensified as the week went on, but it was a mild surprise for the coaching staff at State when the letter came in so early this morning around 10:00 am.
The 6-foot-1, 195-pound athlete got his start at running back, but people that have seen him play say he is an explosive hitter on defense, and it may have been the move to defense that allowed him to gain some solid offers.
"Some colleges want me at free safety, and some want me at outside linebacker. I have to gain some weight if I want to play at outside backer. I just want to play defense," Jenrette explained.
He could translate to the bandit position at Michigan State as he has the combination of speed and skills that the position demands.
Jenrette chose Michigan State over West Virginia, Indiana, Cincinnati and Rutgers.
GSN will have more on Jenrette and all the other recruits after John L. Smith's 4:00pm press conference.
