Howard quits MSU football team

Garfield Heights, Ohio running back prospect Tony Howard has quit the MSU football team and is expected to transfer after falling way down the team's depth chart following his arrest and conviction for drunken driving in Ohio last week.

EAST LANSING -- Garfield Heights, Ohio running back prospect Tony Howard has quit the MSU football team and is expected to transfer after falling way down on the depth chart following his arrest on a driving while intoxicated charge in Ohio in July. The case was resolved last week.

Howard fell behind freshmen running back A.J. Jimmerson and Javon Ringer during his absence from the team due to a shoulder injury. That would leave him as no better than fifth behind Jason Teague, who had assault charges dismissed earlier this week and sophomore Jehuu Caulcrick.

Howard was also disciplined by the Michigan State coaching staff for his run in with the law. MSU coaching staff would not disclose how Howard was disciplined.
