Spartans get Brother Rice LB Decker to verbal

Decker recorded 84 tackles, 8 1/2 sacks and an interception. Decker's punt block late in the Catholic league championship game against Detroit St. Martin DePorres was returned for a touchdown giving the Warriors the margin of victory. It's those kinds of key plays that made Decker an all-state selection.

EAST LANSING - Michigan State received a verbal committment from coveted Birmingham (MI) Brother Rice linebacker Adam Decker.

The Spartans outdueled Stanford, Indiana and Central Michigan for the services of the two-way star who coach Al Fracassa called the heart and soul of state champion Warriors.

"He was the leader of our defense," Coach Fracassa told the Detroit News "He was our catalyst. He was the guy who made our defense go."

NOTES: The Spartans lost verbal commitment Justin Tomerlin to Nebraska. Tomerlin reneged on an earlier commitment to State after going on along with a friend on a visit "just to check out" Nebraska.
