EAST LANSING - Maurice Ager scored 19 points to lead No. 10 Michigan State to a 102-52 win over Nicholls State on Saturday. The MSU outburst marked the third straight contest that the Spartans scored more than 100 points.
Kelvin Torbert added 16 points, Shannon Brown and Alan Anderson had 15 apiece and Paul Davis had 11 for the Spartans (3-0). Despite the blowout win, Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo wasn't happy with his team's performance.
"I guess that teams go through this all over the country, where they play this nice kind of schedule. Games go like this one did and that is why I am not an advocate of a schedule this easy. It has given us a false sense of security that, thank God, will end on Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday," growsed Izzo, referring to Michigan State's upcoming date with the Duke Blue Devils.
"I was disappointed by the lack of effort on the defensive end. On the break, I think we missed some good plays. Like I said, missing some shots that we would have, could have, made, I don't have a problem with that. But the lack of focus; we weren't focused. Maybe that is understandable, but I like the fact that our seniors were a little bit upset. That is good news, so maybe they will take care of things."
The Spartans built up a 30 point halftime lead for the third straight game.
The game marked the 100th straight sellout crowd in Breslin Center and Tom Izzo's 300th as Michigan State coach (210-90). MSU goes to Durham to take on the Blue Devils Tuesday evening in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
