Zembiec gets a little something new at MSU

Aquinas Institute (Rochester, N.Y.) QB pleased with showing at Michigan State camp and talks a lot about the Spartans. Where does it sound like he sits with the Michigan State staff?

Summer football camps are nothing new for Jake Zembiec, but Saturday's experience at Michigan State gave him something a little bit different.

"I think the best part of the camp was having a guy like Connor Cook there, a guy who is in the system and can give you little pointers," he said. "At every camp the coaches are there, but that was pretty cool."

The Aquinas Institute (Rochester, N.Y.) 2016 quarterback said Cook gave him tips specific to Michigan State's offense in footwork, when to open your hips on a fade and more. As the day progressed, he said he really found his rhythm and everything clicked.

"I think it went really and I threw really good again," he said. "I started to throw even better in 7 on 7 and kind of got my rhythm toward the end."

The feedback from MSU quarterbacks coach Brad Salem indicated the same thing.

"He loved what he saw, but he was just really excited to get me to camp and see me in person," Zembiec said. "He thought my throwing was great and my mechanics were very sound. He told us basically I am one of their top guys in the class of 2016."

If an offer ultimately comes, he said it definitely would be a big one and pointed to what he learned during the camp and his visit as a big reason why it would be big.

"I didn't know a lot about Michigan State as far as campus and the coaches," he said. "The only guy I had talked to was Coach Salem. So to go there and all the coaches were great, which is kind of my biggest thing as far as what I'm looking at. It made it even more meaningful just to see a place that I could really fit in to and to give me positive feedback is really good. …

"The offense fits me very well. It's a great environment and those are the main things right now. In the next couple of years I will be able to look more into academics and that part of it that I didn't get to do too much research being on."

Zembiec holds offers from Penn State and Syracuse thus far, but has more visits coming up soon for camps – including with the past two national champions.

"In a couple weeks here, we are going to be going to Texas for an Under Armour, IMG camp which is called Prime 21," he said. "It's going to be a reality TV show camp, run by Deion Sanders. We just planned that trip.

"Alabama and Florida State will be in mid-July and at the end of July, Oklahoma State."
