Michigan State basketball is no stranger to playing around the United States armed forces, having played on an aircraft carrier in San Diego and an Army base in Germany.
Next up, the Spartans will play against one of the nation's service academies. As part of the inaugural Veterans Classic at the Naval Academy, Michigan State will play Navy at 9 p.m. Nov. 14.
The Spartans will play in the second game of a doubleheader, with Tennessee and VCU will play in the first matchup at 6:30.
"I've been fortunate enough to play in some amazing venues and be part of some great events, but the one thing I've always felt was missing was the chance to play at one of our service academies," coach Tom Izzo said. "I'm excited to expose my team to the realities of life at the Naval Academy. …
"We are honored to take part in an event honoring our Veterans and to be playing at a place that has produced some of our country's great leaders."
The game will be the Spartans season-opener and will take place the night before the Spartans football team will play at Maryland in College Park, Md., approximately a half hour from Annapolis.
