Green camps at MSU, eying summer commitment

Toledo (Ohio) Catholic Central inside linebacker talks Spartans, upcoming visits he plans to take before making a commitment.

It might be up in the air whether Michigan State will take an inside linebacker in the class of 2015, but that didn't stop Chris Green from putting on a good outing last weekend in East Lansing.

Afterward, Spartans linebackers coach Mike Tressel broke down the situation for the Toledo (Ohio) Catholic Central junior.

"He told me they aren't offering inside linebackers right now, but he told me if they were to start offering inside linebackers, that I am the first one on the chart," Green said. "I think I gave a good impression for that. He said if they were to offer, it would be really late in the summer and I would probably already be committed by then because my plan is to commit this summer."

Once he makes a commitment, he plans to stick with it, which is something he and Tressel discussed.

"He said to keep in contact with him," Green said. "If I was to commit and still be looking for an offer, he said let him know, but if I was to commit and be done and focus on that school, then let him know so he wouldn't offer me. …

"I'm really not that type to commit somewhere and decommit. That doesn't look good."

Green, who felt he performed well in the drills and one on one portions of the camp, will be setting up visits soon to Indiana, Illinois, Cincinnati and Western Michigan as he is targeting a summer commitment.

He also might stop by a camp in South Bend, as the Irish reached out, as well as Ohio State.

"I got a text from my coach saying Notre Dame wanted me to go to a camp on June 9, so I might make it up there also," he said. "I'm going to try to go to as many camps. I am going to the Ohio State camp to see if I can get some feedback from them."

Green already has wrapped up his high school career, as due to missing the age cut off, he will be sitting out his senior year. So now he is setting up a for a senior season in which he will put in plenty of work and take on a good leadership role with his teammates.

"I'm still going to be with the team, on and off the field. I am going to be lifting with them, running with them, on game night I will be like a mentor and coach," he said.
