Michigan State has been without Adreian Payne for four straight games and Saturday appears it will be the fifth.
Coach Tom Izzo said the chances of Payne playing are “slim to none.”
”He is champing at the bit to play,” Izzo said. “It ain’t about a game. It’s about his career and our big picture of things.”
Payne has been cleared to work out and has done some running workouts.
”He’s run on the treadmill twice for a matter of 20 minutes and at about 60 percent of his body weight,” Izzo said. “They can put him in a harness and that’s what he’s done. (Unfortunately), they don’t let us have those on a floor.”
The Spartans have won all four games without Payne. They also will be without junior forward Branden Dawson, who broke his hand Thursday when he punched a table out of frustration during a film session.
