Green back in East Lansing to watch MSU

Former Spartan forward sees a team that "has not scratched the surface" on its potential as he watches from the Breslin Center bleachers.

Sitting a few rows back from the court Saturday, former Michigan State forward Draymond Green was on his feet as the Spartans came back against Minnesota.

His hands went up with a Gary Harris 3-point attempt and he was right in the mix of it in his old stomping grounds in Breslin Center.

"It's definitely different, but exciting," he said. "Just seeing those guys out on the court doing their thing, just the motivation and the swagger that they carry. It's always good to be out there watching.

"To see that from a personal standpoint, I felt like it was amazing and it will only get better."

The current Golden State Warrior came back to East Lansing with a few days off after the Warriors beat Boston 99-97 on Friday night.

Watching the team with many players he stays in close contact with – he named Adreian Payne and Branden Dawson among others – he said he doesn't think the team has scratched the surface.

With health issues and the injury bug biting hard, Green said as players get back to full strength, things will pick up even more.

"Anytime you put a team together, you're expecting it to be healthy and that's how you're playing that team," he said. "When it doesn't happen, it kind of messes everything up, but at the end of the day, once everyone is healthy and all the roles are defined, I think this team will get even better."

The potential he sees in this group of Spartans, though, cannot be denied. Green said he sees a great team – lofty praise coming from a player who went to two Final Fours and won three Big Ten titles at Michigan State.

"They've got all the necessary pieces for what they wanna do and I think it will work," he said. "They have to continue to keep getting better, continue to listen to coach and get their work in every day and I think it will be fine."
