Michigan State cornerback becomes first Jim Thorpe award winning in school history.

Michigan State had put together a strong string of defensive backs since Mark Dantonio arrived in East Lansing, but Darqueze Dennard might very well go down as the best of them.

The senior cornerback was named the Jim Thorpe Award winner as the nation's top defensive back Thursday.

Dennard also won the Jack Tatum Award this week, also for being the nation' stop defensive back.

He also was named the Big Ten's top defensive back.

Dennard had four interceptions and 59 tackles this season.
