A huge mid-week visitor day for Michigan State got even bigger when it picked up a commitment.
Orchard Lake St. Mary’s cornerback Tyson Smith became the second commitment in the class Wednesday as he picked the Spartans.
Smith’s teammate and fellow defensive back Jalen Watts-Jackson is a 2014 commit.
The 5-foot-11, 170-pound corner picked up an offer from MSU following his performance at the Spartans’ elite one-day camp this summer. The Spartans offered Smith and Watts-Jackson at the same time and the pair had talked at that time about playing together in college.
Michigan State was his lone offer, but he had interest from much of the Big Ten and was hearing from Alabama, USC and UCLA among others.
Smith is an early four-star prospect and is ranked the No. 21 cornerback in the nation.
He joined Cass Tech quarterback Jayru Campbell as early 2015 commits.
