Spartans coach wins award for second time in four years after leading Spartans to 11-1 record.

Taking a team from a 7-6 season to an 11-1 record with two games to go is no easy task, but that's exactly what Mark Dantonio accomplished this year at Michigan State.

For his work, the Spartans coach was named Big Ten coach of the year Tuesday.

It is his second Big Ten coach of the year award after being honored in 2010 as the Spartans won the Big Ten.

The Spartans rolled through Big Ten play with an 8-0 record, becoming the first team since the conference expanded to 10 teams in 1953 to win all its conference games by double digits.

It also was the first time the Spartans went 8-0 in conference play in and the third time they posted an undefeated season in school history.

The seventh-year MSU coach is 62-29 in his tenure in East Lansing.

On Monday night, cornerback Darqueze Dennard and defensive end Shilique Calhoun took home individual Big Ten awards as the Spartans' defense made up much of the All-Big Ten teams.
