Michigan State expects to lose star shooting guard Gary Harris to the NBA following this season, so a focus was placed on adding a shooting guard to the 2014 recruiting class.
They did just that as Columbus (Ohio) Gahanna's Javon Bess committed to the Spartans.
Bess brings the ability and versatility to play all over for MSU, which adds value to the commitment beyond just his role as a shooting guard.
The 6-foot-4, 185-pound wing picked MSU over offers from Kansas State and Dayton among others.
Bess took his official visit to Michigan State last weekend for Midnight Madness. He visited East Lansing two weeks prior to that after receiving an offer from the Spartans.
He is the second commitment in the 2014 class joining Sunrise Christian Academy (Bel Aire, Kansas) point guard Lourawls Nairn.
