The Spartans had just 19 penalty yards, when was the last time they had less than that? Looking at the impressive and odd numbers from Michigan State's 55-17 win against Youngstown State.


The Spartans scored just 3 minutes, 11 seconds into the game Saturday. Against Western Michigan, it took almost 30 minutes and against South Florida, it took 49:48 for the offense to get in the end zone.


Michigan State averaged 8.4 yards per passing attempt against YSU. The prior two games were less than 4.0, with a 3.9 against South Florida and a 3.1 against Western Michigan.


Touchdowns passes by Connor Cook, the most since Brian Hoyer threw four against Penn State in 2007. You read that correctly, not even Kirk Cousins threw four touchdown passes in a game and Cook did it in a half.


Penalty yards against Michigan State, its lowest total since October 22, 2011 when the Spartans had no penalty yardage against Wisconsin.


Punter Mike Sadler’s services were called upon just twice after a total of 18 in the Spartans’ first two games.


The Spartans converted 10 of 15 third-down attempts against the Penguins.


The percentage of red zone scoring for Michigan State, which went 7 for 7 with five touchdowns and two field goals in the red zone.


Seconds that Youngstown State had the ball in the fourth quarter.


Yards rushing allowed in three games by the Spartans defense. Opponents have 82 attempts for an average of 1.8 yards per carry.


Points scored. The highest total for Michigan State since it beat Indiana 55-3 on Nov. 19, 2011.
