Michigan State has been renovating and upgrading its football facilities and stadium periodically in recent years.
The latest addition to the program is a video tower on the practice fields and a field turf practice field.
Head coach Mark Dantonio said the improvements are important for the program, especially the turf field.
“We’re playing games on that surface and then we get limited going inside,”Dantonio said. “We needed an outside field turf. We needed an outside field. We haven’t had it, we’ve existed without it, but sometimes we get thrown inside because of the wetness, especially in the spring.
“But I wanted to make sure we had the opportunity to cross that bridge right now. Be able to be outside when it’s wet in the fall, especially in November.”
Dantonio also said the additions were a testament to the dedication of athletic director Mark Hollis to the program.
“You can see the tower, you can see the new field,” Dantonio said. “Our facilities, again, there’s no shortage of a conscious effort by our administration – athletic administration – to continue to improve us in every way. Came out, talked to Mark Hollis about, ‘Hey, we’ve got to get that turf field down this summer,’ and it was done. Same with the tower there. And same with the new facility across the street.
“So things are moving in the right direction and it’s a great place to be, but it’s because of the people.”
