Head coach Mark Dantonio said in his opening remarks Wednesday that the Spartans have an edge to them this offseason – something the players say comes from the way the 2012 season went.
"Last year just created an edge," senior linebacker Max Bullough said. "It's hard to find or put into words here. It's just an edge and the way that we want to prove ourselves again.
"We feel like we didn't have a great showing of what Michigan State is and what Michigan State is all about last year and this offseason is our chance to get ready to do that this year."
Senior offensive lineman Blake Treadwell described it as a hunger the players feel.
"I would say it's more of a hunger," Treadwell said. "Last year left a bad taste in our mouths. As a senior, you want to go out on a high note and learning from last year's experience will really be a driving force to play with that edge and hunger."
Dantonio said Wednesday that the taste the players were left with was wanting more success.
"I think our players can taste how close they were," he said. "They have an edge to them in terms of how they are working."
Bullough said the edge continues to push the Spartans to show that last year was not a reflection of the team
"You want to prove yourself," Bullough said. "You don't think you're the 7-6 team. You know you're better than that and you want to prove it."For more on the Spartans' edge and the resulting offseason work, click here ($)
