Michigan State two-year letterwinner Mike Sadler has been announced as a candidate for the prestigious Ray Guy Award.
A first-team All-Big Ten selection by the coaches in 2012, Sadler is one of 25 candidates on the preseason watch list joining fellow Big Ten punters Justin Duvernois (Illinois) and Cody Webster for the nation’s top punter.
Last season Sadler set MSU’s single-game bowl records for punts (11) and punting yards (481) during the 2012 Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl win over TCU.
During the season the Grand Rapids (Mich) native led the Big Ten and ranked 21-st in the FBS, averaging 43.3 yards per punt, and placed 39 percent of his punts inside the 20 (31-of-39) and 22 percent inside the 10 (17-of-19). Sadler ranked second in the Big Ten with 31 punts downed inside the 20 and had 19 punts of 50-plus yards, which ranked first in the Big Ten. Hist 3,422 punting yards ranked second most in a MSU single season.
