Via a press release Michigan State announced on Monday afternoon that redshirt freshman Kyle Kerrick had requested and been granted a release from his scholarship.
The Pennsylvania native was fighting an uphill battle at receiver and the release will allow the 6-foot-3, 190-pound receiver a chance to find a program with more playing opportunities.
During the spring Kerrick pulled down two catches for 24-yards during the Spartans annual Green-White Spring Game.
Kerrick brought to East Lansing good physical size but looked to lack top line speed. With a deep group of receivers battling for spots on the depth chart, Kerrick’s departure should not have any effect on the Spartans this fall or in the future.
