The last month has been pretty eventful for 2014 Hinsdale Central (Ill.) tight end Ian Bunting, who picked up three offers in the past week from Ole Miss, Iowa, and Northwestern.
Bunting, a 6-foot-6 prospect also excels on the basketball court and it wasn't too long ago that he wasn't sure what sport he might play in college.
"I wasn't even sure what sport I wanted to do in college, football or basketball," Bunting said. "I had no clue what I really wanted to do, recruiting has kind of all been a surprise, its been awesome. A great opportunity for me."
When Bunting discovered football, there was no turning back.
"I didn't even play football until high school, well I played one year in sixth grade," Bunting reminisced. "Then I didn't go back into it until high school because
all my friends were on the team, freshman year and I thought I liked watching football and its fun to play, so I decided that I would go out and try it."
He added laughing, "I guess it was a good decision."
Now Bunting has seven offers, and is showing no signs of slowing down.
One of the most recent is from Iowa, which Bunting recently visited.
"I have been down to Iowa's campus a few times it is a gorgeous campus and their coaches have been there forever," Bunting said. "Coach Ferentz is sending his sons through the program and it shows he trusts the program and it is going in a great direction. It is a great place to be a tight end, they have produced so many great tight ends and they utilize them in the passing game very well."
One of the other new offers, is from Ole Miss.
"I talked to a few of the coaches on the phone, the wide receiver and tight end coaches," Bunting said. "And they were just talking about how in their offense the tight end isn't always hand on the ground blocking defensive ends they are gong to flex them out a lot."
The third school to offer Bunting recently is Northwestern.
"With Northwestern I have been down there a few times," Bunting said. "I really like Coach Fitz and the rest of the coaches, they have the super back position which is unique to them. That is probably be where I would be playing, which is a great opportunity to have."
There are several other schools that Bunting has heard from recently.
"I have heard form Oregon and UCLA recently," Bunting said. "And I was hearing a lot from Washington earlier but my recruiting coach left the school. Also Arkansas has reached out to me recently, that was the first I had heard from them."
