Michigan State continued it’s hot play in the Big Ten on Tuesday night holding on in the final seconds to secure their sixth consecutive win in conference play by beating Wisconsin on the road 49-47.
Leading the way for the Spartans was Keith Appling who scored 19 points on the night and Branden Dawson who added 19 in helping the No. 13 Spartans to the victory.
However, a cold spell by both teams down the stretch kept things close until Dawson hit one of two from the line to put the Spartans up 48-44 with just over two-minutes left in the game.
Looking to force the Spartans to earn the victory the Badgers placed freshman Gary Harris on the line where he hit the front end of a one-and-one but rimmed out the second chance leaving the Badgers hope of pulling out a home win.
With 3.5 second left Wisconsin’s George Marshall was fouled giving the Badgers a chance to push the game into overtime. Marshall missed his first attempt before intentionally trying to miss his second shot that failed to draw iron giving the Spartans the ball and the victory to move to 6-1 in Big Ten play.
The win marks the Spartans second straight victory in Madison and gives the Green & White a four-game winning streak against the Badgers.
