Malzone Has Good Visit to MSU

Birmingham Brother Rice (Mich.) sophomore quarterback Alex Malzone took in a bowl practice at Michigan State on Saturday. Here's what he saw.

He just might be one of the top sophomores in Michigan, and the Midwest, so Michigan State is quickly getting involved in the recruitment of quarterback Alex Malzone, as the Spartans hosted the young signal caller on Saturday for their bowl practice.

"It was great," he said. "Lots of intensity. Also, I went up at three, they had a team meeting. Then they had some players that had a funny skit that was actually really funny, then they broke off individually. I went with the quarterbacks and sat with the quarterback meeting."

The 6'3, 180-lb Malzone had a chance to watch the Spartan coaches interact with the players up close and personal.

"I liked how they were always pretty even keel. The quarterbacks coach, Coach Warner, when we went out and watched quarterback drills, if the person made a bad throw or bad read, he wouldn't jump right on them. Obviously, he'd tell them what he did wrong, but he'd coach them up. In the quarterback meeting, he wasn't up there just talking. He was including players, asking them what they thought. It was an interactive meeting also."

The Spartan coaches have made it clear to Malzone that, even though he is still young, they like what he did this season.

"At first, I just talked to Coach Salem, had a tour around the building, talked to Coach Warner, he said he liked my film. I talked to Coach Dantonio before practice. He said he still has to watch my game film and highlight tape, but the other coaches saw it and liked it. Then we talked about, if I went there, the quarterbacks there, what year they'd be and how I'd fit in."

Malzone says he has no further visits planned at this time.
