Forest Hills Northern, in the Grand Rapids area is home to a junior, Jacob Howe, who is just starting to hit the radar, except with the handful of schools he camped with this summer, who are well aware of his talent.
"I went to a bunch of camps this summer," the 6'2, 230-lb linebacker said. "I went to Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan, Western Michigan, Ferris State, a bunch of schools, and it really helped a ton with starting to getting my name out there."
Howe says those schools provided helpful feedback, but also said because he had not yet started his junior season, they could not do much with him yet, but he has received mail from a number or programs.
"I have a lot of letters. Last year, I got them from Princeton, Michigan State, Air Force, nothing serious yet, but I'm getting stuff, which is fun."
There are also some local programs Howe is hearing from.
"I talked to Grand Valley State. They want me to come to a game. I've heard from Eastern Michigan, and my dad played at Hope, and the head coach is still the head coach, so they want me to come to a game."
Judging from Howe's film, he will likely have a number of other schools jump into his recruitment, including more Big Ten schools, but right now, he likes the feel of some of the MAC schools he has heard from.
"I really like MAC schools. I like how they're not huge. I'm hoping to end up in the MAC one day. I really like Eastern Michigan. I have contacts over there. I'm going to travel to Ohio, Miami, Bowling Green, Toledo, just to see what they have to offer, so I have lot more contact with MAC schools."
In the classroom, Howe carries a 3.6 GPA. See video of him in action here.
