After much rain this week in East Lansing, Michigan State moved its first scrimmage of the preseason from Saturday to Sunday and got ideal weather conditions.
Making their first appearance in Spartan Stadium, the Green & White held a 161-play situational scrimmage that last two hours and 44 minutes.
Leading the offense was first year starter Andrew Maxwell who completed 16 passes on 29 attempts for 162 yards. While Maxwell was not able to get the Spartans in the end zone, back-up Connor Cook continued to impress going 15-of-25 for 145 yards and one touchdown and interception.
Not to be forgotten was freshman signal caller Tyler O'Connor who went 6-of-14 for 105 yards and one touchdown.
Le'Veon Bell paced the Spartans running backs with 49 yards on 12 carries while Bennie Fowler led the Spartans young receiving core by pulling down five balls for 55 yards.
The Spartans defense found several young players take advantage of their time on the field as Darien Harris posted nine tackles with one for a loss. R.J. Williamson, Jarius Jones and Ed Davis each posted six tackles with Jones posting a sack.
