Midwest: Camp Emergers - 2014

Damon Webb

There were several class of 2014 prospects who we saw step it up during June's camp circuit and earn new offers in the process. Here are eight who made big strides in the last few weeks.

Damon Webb | CB | Detroit Cass Tech (MI)
Always considered more of a wide receiver, Webb has proven to be a big time cornerback over the summer and that has lead to several big time offers. With his size, ball skills and recent performances, locking down a few touted receivers, Webb earned offers from Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin and West Virginia. He's still a BCS level receiver, but he's one of the very best corners in the 2014 class.

Jaden Gault | OT | Monona Grove (WI)
Gault batted 100% this June, camping at Wisconsin and Nebraska and earning subsequent offers from both. It isn't hard to see why though, as he has a 6'7, 280-lb frame and good tape from his sophomore season. He has the type of size and skill set that could draw him a lot of offers as more schools see him and find out about him, but the Huskers and Badgers are going to be two tough teams to beat.

Thaddeus Snodgrass | WR | Springfield (Ohio)
A blazing speedster, Snodgrass ran past a lot of would-be defenders at the Columbus NIKE Camp, then did the same at Michigan State's camp earning a Spartan offer. He then went out and did it again at Notre Dame and directly in front of Urban Meyer in Ohio State's indoor, earning himself two more offers. Now the race to land the 2014 target has sped up just about as quickly as he gets off the line of scrimmage.

Tommy Doles | OT | Grand Rapids Christian (MI)
Doles thanks chocolate milk along with more food and hard work for his growth, adding over 20-lbs from 215 to 240 this offseason. That added weight has helped his recruitment, as he has had good camp stops at Michigan State, Michigan and Notre Dame, earning a Wolverine offer in the process. A technician with toughness, smarts, and a great student in the classroom, the Spartans, Irish and other schools may not be far behind in offering.

Conor Sheehy | DE | Milwaukee Marquette (WI)
Sheehy had really good showings at both Michigan and Michigan State's camps, and came away with stronger interest, but no offers. Then he went to Wisconsin, where this power lifter showed that he could not only power through people, but get around them as well and was rewarded with his first offer from the Badgers.

Craig Evans | DT | Sun Prairie (WI)
A thick, strong, 6'3, 315-lb kid who has started on varsity since his freshman season, Evans came into Wisconsin's camp with offers from Nebraska, Pittsburgh and Michigan State already, and left with one from the Badgers after showing them his talents in Madison. While he has other options, it appears as though the in-state program has become the team to beat in his recruitment.

Enoch Smith Jr. | DL | Chicago Mt. Carmel (IL)
Smith had a good sophomore season and the offers started to trickle in at the start of the month, but he really hit his stride a few weeks ago, earning offers from Indiana, Purdue and then Illinois. After those camps, he had a good day at Michigan, then headed down to South Bend, where Notre Dame offered him after working with him for a day. At 6'2, 265-lbs, with a college ready body, it is safe to say those offers probably won't be the last.

Joseph Henderson | OLB | Shaker Heights (Ohio)
We saw him rush the passer with great success at the Columbus NIKE Camp, then at Sound Mind, Sound Body and Toledo's 7 on 7, he was dropping into coverage and making plays there. That earned him a couple early offers, but his first from the Big Ten came after making interception after interception at Michigan and receiving a Wolverine offer. His ability to come forward and put heat on the quarterback and drop into coverage makes him a unique prospect.
