Mark Dantonio announced in Chicago offensive lineman Zach Hueter will forgo his football career because his shoulder continues to be a problem.
The redshirt junior from Columbiaville (MI) North Branch High School sat out the entire 2009 and 2010 seasons with the shoulder problems. However, Hueter was able to return this spring and showed promise as he started the spring game.
Dantonio told members of the media that Hueter was getting ready for a fifth surgery and has been ruled medically disqualified. He will now become a student assistant at MSU while finishing work on his degree.
The 6-foot-6, 310-pound tackle was expected to battle for a starting spot at right tackle in camp with Skyler Burkland. The loss of Hueter adds to the questions the Spartans will have early in camp as they look to build a solid offensive line.
