Rucker to the Colts

Rucker to the Colts

After off the field issues almost sidelined his college career, Chris Rucker rebounded and earned his chance to be drafted by the Indianapolis Colts.

With the No. 188 overall selection in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Indianapolis Colts selected former Michigan State defensive back Chris Rucker. For Rucker the road has been rocky, but he has withstood off the field issues while Spartans head coach Mark Dantonio showed his faith in the Ohio native during his career helping Rucker grow into a man.

"I think I have progressed a lot. Coming in, I was a young man and now I am a man. I have learned so much throughout my years at Michigan State that I can use for the rest of my life. I am really appreciated my time at MSU and it will always have a special place in my heart."

One thing Rucker knows is he is heading to one of the top teams in the NFL who are excited about what he could do as a pro.

"They liked the way I played the game. They felt that my style of play really fit into their defensive scheme. They want me to try and come in and help the team right away.

"It is a great honor, a great organization – great ownership, great management. It is a winning team, and it is an honor for them to choose me and for me to now go to Indianapolis and try to help the team."

Another former Spartans has already given Rucker the lowdown on what to expect from the Colts.

"I talked with Blair (White) a little already about the organization, and he said that I need to expect to work hard and to come ready to play."

Heading into his final season as a Spartan, some felt Rucker could improve his stock and draft status. However, all the 6-foot-0, 195-pound Rucker is concerned about is getting a chance to show what he can do.

"My expectations were to just get the opportunity. No matter where or when I went, I just wanted the opportunity. I just wanted the opportunity to go out there and show what I can do and prove myself. It has been a long week, but I am happy to know that I am going to the Indianapolis Colts."

The future looks bright for Rucker as he heads off to the NFL in hopes of finding a new home with the Colts.
