Spartans Taking Early Look At Ohio Safety

While the Spartans are still working on finishing up the Class of 2011, a recent stop in Ohio has them looking at a safety with some former ties to the staff.

James Sanford has heard a lot about Mark Dantonio and Harlon Barnett. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound safety out of Xenia (Ohio) High School, has one of his coaches ( Cedric Tolbert) who was recruited and played for the Spartan coaches during their time at the University of Cincinnati.

"Coach Tolbert has talked with Coach Barnett about me and they are going to look at my game film. Coach Barnett said they are still working on the 2011 class, but will soon be getting with me to learn more about me."

Another former player for Dantonio and Barnett at Cincinnati has also seen and talked about Sanford to his former coaches.

"I worked with Mike Mickens at a camp this past summer," Sanford said about the former University of Cincinnati cornerback. "He told me he liked my skills and felt I could play at a high level."

Sanford has seen a few programs show early interest.

"Ohio State, Purdue, Ohio, Cincinnati, and Notre Dame have all shown interest. I went to Ohio State for a game and also Cincinnati this season."

SpartanDigest.com will continue to follow any development the Irish may have with Sanford in the coming months.
